Jigawa seals $10m deal with Indian firm to boost poultry farming

Precious Olugbodi

Jigawa State Government has signed a $10 million joint venture agreement with India’s Srinivasa Farms Private Limited to establish a modern poultry hatchery in the State.

Governor Umar Namadi disclosed this in a post on his official X account, saying the project would address challenges poultry farmers face in accessing quality day-old chicks.

“For far too long, our poultry farmers have faced the same frustrating challenges, struggling to get quality day-old chicks, dealing with long waiting times, high prices, and the added burden of transporting them across long distances,” the Governor said.

Namadi said the hatchery would be established in Jigawa to ease these challenges and reduce the burden on farmers.

“We’re putting the hatchery right here in Jigawa so farmers don’t have to wait endlessly or spend so much just to get chicks to their farms,” he added.

The Governor said the partnership would also provide smallholder farmers with training, technical guidance, vaccination, feed support and other practical assistance to improve poultry production.

“And it’s not only about the chicks. We’re also putting real support behind smallholder farmers through training, technical guidance, vaccination, feed help, and other practical assistance so they can raise healthier birds and earn better from their work,” Namadi said.

He added that the initiative would strengthen the state’s poultry value chain, improve livelihoods and contribute to food security.
