Mother grateful family relocated from US to Nigeria

A US-certified Holistic Health Practitioner, Modupe Aiyegbusi, has described the relocation of her family to Nigeria six years ago as the decision of their lives.

She reflected six years after the family moved from New Jersey to Jos, capital of Plateau State, saying the relocation is one of the best things that happened to them.

Aiyegbusi recalled ‘’people thought we were crazy for moving back to Nigeria,’’ thanking God for making their new abode ‘’home.’’

She said moving back to Nigeria after 18 years of living in the US has opened up new opportunities, specifically referencing building a business that has helped over 1,000 people.

In a social post on the anniversary of the relocation, she wrote: ‘’We had lived in the United States for about 18 years. Our three children were born there. My husband had spent most of his life there. And then we decided to move to Jos, Nigeria.’’

She said when they shared the decision to return home, many Nigerians discouraged them with expressions such as ‘’Don’t come.”; “Do you know what is happening in Jos?” and “People are being k*lled.”

But she said a sickness which required her to recuperate in Nigeria for six months was the turning point for the family.

‘’After I had my third child, I became very sick and came to Nigeria for about six months to recover. My family practically took over with the children and gave me the opportunity to rest.

‘’It was during that period that we really began to feel God drawing our attention back to Nigeria. Doors were also opening for us to serve as missionaries. So we prayed about it. And eventually, we packed up our lives and came.’’

Concerns about how the children would settle in were quickly handled, she said.

According to her: ‘’By God’s grace, they did. We lived on a missionary compound when we first arrived, and they made friends quickly.

‘’In New Jersey, we had to arrange playdates. Here, they could simply knock on somebody’s door and say, “Come outside, let’s play.

‘’Almost six years later, they love the food, the people and the culture. They even try to speak Nigerian English now, which just endears my heart.’’

On the benefits of the relocation, she stated: ‘’I built a business that has now helped over a thousand people. Something I don’t know that I would have even thought to build if I had remained in the United States.

‘’Looking back, my biggest takeaway is still very simple: Wherever God’s will for you is, that’s the best place to be. Almost six years later, I’m grateful we came. God has kept us, blessed the work of our hands, and made this place home.’’
