Secret of my perfect CGPA, by UNILORIN’s best graduating student
Francis Olusegun, the overall best graduating student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) for the 2026 academic session, has attributed his academic success to personal discipline, clear goals and a structured approach to life.
Francis, who graduated with a perfect 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), said having a personal system for organising his activities and pursuing his goals helped him achieve the feat.
“I have my own structure. I have the way I do my things. I don't just do things anyhow,” he said in an interview.
Explaining his approach to academic success, he said students should understand what they want to achieve and develop a process that works for them rather than simply copying other people's methods.
He noted that although his approach had worked for him, it might not necessarily work for everyone.
“My own might not really work for you. Just look for your own particular structure that works for you,” he said.
The graduate also advised students to remain focused on their goals and avoid distractions, stressing the importance of having a clear vision and working towards it.
“If you know what you are doing, I think you should know that you should not be distracted,” he said.
He further encouraged Nigerians to set goals and develop practical steps towards achieving them.
“Have the goal, have the vision and then just create a particular process for yourself, and that will really help you so much,” he said.
Francis further expressed appreciation to his lecturers, the university management, his friends and others who contributed to his academic journey.
He described the day of his recognition as fulfilling and acknowledged the support he received throughout his studies.
According to Francis, he is the first student in the history of the University of Ilorin to graduate with a perfect 5.0 CGPA.
