VIDEO: American gospel icon Nicole Mullen sings in Yoruba

Admin2 weeks ago

American gospel icon Nicole Mullen has been seen rehearsing a song in Yoruba.

The composer of the popular ‘My Redeemer Lives’ song was seen in a video singing ‘Olorun t'o da awon Oke Igbani’ with a small team of her band.

‘Olorun t'o da awon Oke Igbani’, a worship song in Yoruba literally meaning ‘God who created the ancient mountains’, is widely believed to have been sung for decades in Nigeria.

The willingness of the first African American woman to win the GMA Dove Award for songwriter of the year to sing in Yoruba shows the impact of the language spoken by over 50m people across the West Africa coast, Cuba, Brazil and parts of America.

She is heard trying to make the team with the right pronunciations for a presentation that is sure to wow the global gospel community.
