VIDEO: Hausa trader returns savings of dead beggar

Admin2 weeks ago

Rather than sit on the money, the trader returned the entire savings, proving that honesty is second nature to many Nigerians.

A trader of Northern extraction has voluntarily given up the savings a dead beggar kept with him.

The deaf and dumb, according to reports, died after keeping all his earnings from begging to the Hausa trader for keeping.

But shortly after news of the dead beggar frittered to town, rather than sitting on the savings, the trader decided to bring all the monies in his custody to Ogbe Ijoh market in Warri, Delta State in a rare display of honesty.

Ogbe Ijoh market is a prominent fish and trading market widely known as one of the oldest government-recognised markets in Delta State dating back to the 19th century (around 1894).

The market remains one of the largest fish-trading centres in southern Nigeria.

Though much is known of the dead beggar, a video on social media showed the moment the Hausa trader, who identified himself as Idris, brought the begs where he kept the cash wrapped in smaller nylons said to be the daily proceeding of the beggar.

He told the market leaders the dead beggar kept the money with him with several market people seen helping to untie the nylons and fold the naira cash for proper counting.

The development is another evidence that Nigerians are a bunch of honest people.
