The Better Life Programme for the African Rural Woman (BLPARW) has awarded three-year scholarships to 20 indigent students in Zamfara State.

The beneficiaries, 13 girls and seven boys, are students of Government Day Secondary School, Unguwar Danbaba, and Government Girls Secondary School, Tsunami.

The programme coordinator, Aisha Abu said, the scholarship will cover the students from SSS 1-3.

The beneficiaries received school uniforms, shoes, bags, textbooks, exercise books, writing materials and socks under the programme.

Aisha also said the initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on indigent families and prevent students from dropping out of school because of inability to afford basic educational materials.

The organisation said the beneficiaries would continue receiving the package annually for the three years of their senior secondary education.

It added that the Zamfara programme was part of its broader education and empowerment interventions aimed at supporting underserved communities across the country.

Aisha said similar interventions have been implemented in Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory.

BLPARW said the scholarship programme was in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 1, which focuses on ending poverty; SDG 4, on quality education; and SDG 5, on gender equality.

The organisation urged individuals, corporate bodies and development partners to support its efforts to extend educational opportunities to more indigent students across its areas of operation.

The principals, the beneficiaries and their parents applauded the gesture and assured to utilise it judiciously.
