Acts 1:8 Collective targets ₦100m mission fund with ‘An Evening of Historic Hymns 2026’

The Acts 1:8 Collective, a mission-driven community of entrepreneurs, investors and professionals committed to advancing gospel missions across Africa, will host ‘An Evening of Historic Hymns 2026’ on Sunday, November 8 with a fundraising target of ₦100 million to support mission work and theological education in Nigeria.

The event, which will take place at The First Baptist Church Lagos, will feature congregational worship, choir and orchestral performances and stories from the mission field.

Proceeds will support The Great Commission Movement of Nigeria and mission students at the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminaries.

The gathering forms part of the Collective’s broader commitment to mobilising financial resources for gospel missions, particularly in underserved communities and areas where access for mission work remains challenging.

Founded by Christian entrepreneurs, investors and professionals, the Acts 1:8 Collective seeks to apply the principles of investment and capital stewardship to advancing the Great Commission.

The community pools capital, invests it and directs the returns towards mission work across Africa to ensure sustainability of the support.

It also organises targeted fundraising initiatives to support specific mission agencies and causes.

A venture capital investor, Dr Dotun Olowoporoku, who is also co-convener of the ‘Evening of Historic Hymns’ said the initiative reflects his conviction that professional experience, financial resources, and personal networks can be deployed to serve gospel purpose.

“As an investor, much of my work involves understanding how capital can be deployed to create value and produce meaningful outcomes. I believe that experience, alongside the networks I have built with fellow investors, entrepreneurs, and professionals, can also be used to mobilise resources for the Kingdom.

“For us, this is about applying what we know about capital to a mission that is greater than ourselves. There is an opportunity to bring together people with the capacity and willingness to give, and channel those resources towards advancing the gospel, particularly in communities where mission work needs greater support. An Evening of Historic Hymns is one way we are putting that conviction into practice,” he said.

The Collective’s approach combines long-term capital stewardship with direct support for mission organisations and students preparing for ministry.

Through initiatives such as ‘An Evening of Historic Hymns,’ it aims to expand the pool of resources available to those engaged in gospel work across Nigeria and the wider African continent.

The 2026 edition continues an annual fundraising initiative organised by Dr. Olowoporoku and his wife, now being hosted by the Acts 1:8 Collective.

It offers an opportunity for individuals, families, businesses and other supporters to contribute to the work of mission organisations and the training of future ministry leaders.

Beyond the musical performances, the evening will provide a platform for sharing experiences from the mission field and highlighting the work that financial and community support makes possible.

The fundraising goal is to raise up to ₦100 million for the designated beneficiaries.
