Broda Shaggi shares survival story, promises exciting projects

Comedian and skit maker Samuel Animashaun Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted how he survived a stray bullet injury that kept him away from work for months, promising fans exciting projects as he prepares to return to the screen.

NaijaGoodNews reported that the entertainer announced plans to share his experience following the shooting incident, which raised concerns among fans about his health and recovery.

In fulfilment of that promise, Shaggi opened up about the ordeal in a YouTube video released on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, detailing the physical and emotional challenges he faced after the incident in March.

Shaggi was shot while returning from a brand activation assignment around the Sango-Ota Bridge in Ogun State.

Recounting the incident, the comedian said he heard a loud bang while he was in a vehicle caught in traffic. He initially struggled to understand what had happened until he touched his hip and discovered he was bleeding.

Shaggi said he subsequently lost consciousness and could not remember how he was taken to the hospital. However, he recalled praying as he was being rushed for medical attention.

“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.

The injury raised concerns about his future in entertainment, particularly because dancing, singing and other physical performances are important parts of his work.

Shaggi disclosed that he worried about whether he would ever regain the ability to perform as he did before the incident.

He also revealed that being away from work for months made him fear that his fans might forget him while other entertainers continued releasing content.

“Since 2018 till date I never rest. It’s always back to back. If I’m not writing I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something,” he said, reflecting on his busy schedule before the injury.

Despite the challenges, the comedian said he tried to remain productive during his hospitalisation by writing and working on a YouTube series.

He initially underwent surgery in Nigeria but later travelled to Dubai for further treatment after his recovery did not progress as expected.

According to him, his condition improved following the subsequent operation. He said he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches on the third day.

Providing an update on his recovery, Shaggi disclosed that he could now stand without crutches, although he still needed them for support.

Reflecting on his survival, the entertainer expressed gratitude that the bullet had struck his hip rather than a more vital part of his body.

“It was a stray bullet and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he said.

Describing the experience as a second chance at life, Shaggi said he wanted his fans to celebrate his survival and look forward to his return to entertainment.

“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he said.

He added that he had several creative projects he hoped to pursue after months away from work, urging fans to anticipate his return.
