A major tragedy was averted in Lagos on Thursday when a driver escaped unhurt after a moving train crashed into his Honda car at the PWD railway line.

The 55-year-old driver came out of the wreckage of his car with registration number EKY 902 JT unharmed when the train moving towards Agege crushed it, leaving the vehicle terribly damaged.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and security personnel rescued the driver and removed the wreckage from the railway track, allowing the train to continue its journey.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said there was no casualty, adding that the damaged vehicle was handed over to security personnel for further investigation.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their prompt response and coordination during the emergency.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution around railway crossings and designated train corridors, warning them against attempting to cross railway tracks when a train was approaching or in motion.

He said adherence to railway safety regulations and traffic rules was essential to preventing avoidable collisions and protecting lives.
