FCCPC lauds Akanni for bagging fellowship award
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has congratulated Professor Tunde Akanni on the award of Fellowship of Society for Peace Studies and Practice (FSPSP) in recognition of his exemplary contributions to peace scholarship in Nigeria.
SPSP serves as a distinguished professional umbrella organisation for peace scholars and practitioners, committed to fostering a collaborative platform dedicated to sustainable peace and development across Africa.
The Society advocates for non-violent approaches to conflict resolution through rigorous research, strategic advocacy, and practical interventions designed to enhance local capacities and cultivate a lasting culture of peace.
Prof. Akanni’s investiture as a Fellow of the Society took place during SPSP 20th Annual International Conference and General Assembly on Tuesday October 6, 2026 at Lead City University, Ibadan.
In a congratulatory statement FCCPC Head of Administration Yisau Adepoju, on behalf of its CEO, the agency said that the award “is a clear testimony to Prof. Akanni’s laudable scholarly contribution to the field of journalism.’’
It added: “As a thoroughbred professional and accomplished academic, you have consistently demonstrated passion and unwavering commitment to the promotion of Conflict-Sensitive Journalism.
“You have tenaciously identified with this strand of Development Communication that is renowned for fostering sustainable social change and advancing the overall quality of life, particularly in developing nations.’’
The Commission hoped Akanni would continue to make the nation and the global academic community proud in all his future endeavours.
Prof. Akanni, currently on sabbatical with FCCPC where he contributes his expertise to strategic communication, public engagement, and institutional communication, teaches in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Lagos State University (LASU).
His career as a journalism and media studies scholar spans academia, professional journalism, public policy, media development, and civil society engagement.
