FCT IDP camp celebrates restoration of water
The Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Wassa, Abuja bubbled at the weekend over the restoration of potable water.
Thousands of residents leapt for joy when founder of the Alternative Movement, Segun Showunmi, sponsored the restoration of water supply.
The project, initiated by Civitas Auxillium Foundation, was undertaken to fix prolonged water shortage at the camp with more than 5,000 internally displaced persons.
The residents had been grappling with the challenge following the malfunctioning of the borehole, their primary source of water.
Showunmi, who visited the camp to officially launch the completed water project, reaffirmed commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through humanitarian interventions.
The Alternative Movement, under his leadership, previously sponsored several intervention projects at the camp, including a medical outreach aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of the displaced residents.
During the visit, Showunmi urged the IDPs not to lose hope in government intervention, assuring them that he would make efforts to attract the attention of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as well as officials from the Presidency, to their plight.
He also appealed to the Governor of Borno State to intervene in the welfare of the displaced persons, noting that many of the camp's residents are indigenes of the state and would benefit from support from their home state government.
Showunmi donated money to the residents assuring he would continue to stand by them and sustain his philanthropic support, expressing the determination to ensure that their welfare remains a priority.
