Four passengers rescued at Otedola bridge crash

Precious Olugbodi

Four passengers with multiple fractures have been rescued and taken for emergency medical treatment following a serious road crash at Otedola, inward Berger, Lagos State.

The accident, which occurred during the morning rush hour on Monday, October 19, involved a Toyota Highlander and a Mazda commercial bus near Jubilee Gate.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), working with the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), rescued the injured passengers and transported them to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for treatment.

In a statement, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, said the agency’s operatives also controlled traffic around the scene to prevent a secondary collision and ensure the safety of other road users.

Security personnel from the Isheri Police Division provided additional support during the rescue operation, while the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was among the agencies commended for their response.

The two drivers involved in the collision were apprehended and handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.

The vehicles were also transferred to the appropriate security authorities for further investigation.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives, LASAMBUS personnel, FRSC officials and police officers for their prompt response and collaboration.

Bakare-Oki stressed the importance of timely emergency response and cooperation among relevant agencies, particularly on busy roads where delays could worsen the consequences of accidents.

He also urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, manage their speed and remain attentive while driving to prevent avoidable road crashes.
