Fufu secret of my speed, says Karim Adeyemi
The Nigerian-born Barca star credited the popular staple for his agility and speed on the field.
Nigerian-born Barcelona winger Karim Adeyemi has attributed his footballing skills, especially speed to constant consumption of Fufu.
Fufu, a swallow made from cassava, is a popular food in Nigeria, especially in the southern part.
Adeyemi, who joined the Spanish giants for €22 million fixed + €7 million in add-ons from Dortmund, was born to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother.
He has made a sterling start to his Barcelona career scoring three goals in the first eight games with three assists.
Shortly after the Catalans demolished Racing Satander 7-2 on matchday six, Adeyemi, who won two penalties and gave two assists in the game, said fufu was responsible for his fast speed in an interview. Excerpts:
Interviewer: “Karim, tell me what do you eat? Because I want to be as fast as you.”
Karim Adeyemi: “I eat a lot of African food but I have good genetics from my dad so I think it’s a little bit difficult for you to get fast.” 😂
Interviewer: “Yeah I know, I have some trouble. What’s the African food so that I can look it up?”
Karim Adeyemi: “It’s called ‘Fufu’.”
Interviewer: “From where is that?”
Karim Adeyemi: “Nigeria.”
Interviewer: “Okay I will look up for some Fufu to start eating.”
