Heirs Insurance wins African award for digital insurance innovation

Precious Olugbodi

Nigerian insurance company Heirs Insurance Group has won the 2026 Africa Sustainable Futures Award for its digital initiatives aimed at making insurance more accessible to underserved Nigerians.

The award, presented by the Financial Times and the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), recognises the company’s efforts to expand access to insurance through technology.

In a post on its X account, Heirs Insurance Group said it was selected from nearly 600 entries for its digital insurance initiatives, which it said have brought accessible protection to more than three million people.

The company’s digital services include a USSD platform, the SimpleLife App and Prince AI, a multilingual artificial intelligence assistant designed to make insurance services easier to access.

According to the company, these initiatives are helping to break barriers to insurance, promote financial inclusion and provide more Nigerians with access to protection.

The recognition highlights the role technology can play in reaching people who may have limited access to traditional insurance services.

Heirs Insurance Group said the achievement marked a significant milestone in its efforts to transform insurance delivery in Nigeria, adding that more developments were ahead.
