JUST IN: Falconets drown England 3-0, zoom into World Cup quarter-finals
The Nigerian girls continued their impressive run at the fiesta with a well-deserved demolition of the English team.
The Falconets advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland after beating England 3-0 in their Round of 16 clash.
Nigeria produced a commanding display at the Stadion Miejski in Bielsko-Biała to eliminate the Young Lionesses and continue their pursuit of a first U-20 Women’s World Cup title.
An eighth minute goal by Tosin Rafiu and two more in the second half by Janet Akekoromowei (47th) and Mary Mamudu (73rd) grounded the English girls.
The victory came after the Falconets finished second in Group F with four points. They opened the tournament with a 2-0 defeat to Spain, drew 0-0 with China before an historic 10-1 demolition of New Caledonia to secure their place in the knockout stage.
Nigeria’s 3-0 triumph means the Falconets have moved into the quarter-finals, keeping alive their hopes of finally winning the competition after finishing runners-up in 2010 and 2014.
The result also extends a remarkable run for Nigeria at the U-20 Women’s World Cup with the country having never failed to qualify for the tournament since its inception.
The Falconets await their quarter-final opponents as they continue their campaign in Poland.
