JUST IN: Super Eagles edge Madagascar 2-1 in AFCON qualifier
The win in the first qualifying games set the ball rolling for what will be a smooth round for the senior male team.
The Super Eagles defeated Madagascar 2-1 on Friday in the opening fixture of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
The Eagles were one goal down after 19 minutes when the defence misjudged a offside call from a free-kick, a setback that rang the alarm bell.
But the team rallied and equalised in the 44 minutes through debutant striker George Ilenikhena before substitute Moses Uzor scored the second through a solo effort in the second half.
Efforts to increase the tally failed but the Eagles will be happy to kick off the qualifiers with a win.
