Kwara promotes 5,956 basic education workers

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the promotion of 5,956 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board with the financial benefits taking effect from October 2026.

The approval was sequel to a computer-based test conducted by the board in the month for eligible employees.

The SUBEB oversees the implementation of basic education programmes in public primary and junior secondary schools in Kwara State.

Staff promotions are part of the public service career progression process, while regular training and improved welfare are among the measures used to support teachers and strengthen the delivery of basic education.

The board’s Executive Chairman, Raheem Adaramaja, disclosed that the affected workers will receive their promotion letters through education secretaries in their respective local government areas.

Adaramaja said the promotion exercise was part of efforts to improve staff welfare and strengthen service delivery in public basic schools.

“Let me put it on record that apart from prompt payment of monthly salaries, regular training and re-training of teachers, and approval of the implementation of 27.5% Teachers Specific Allowance (TSA), Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has consistently implemented promotion of teachers from 2017 to date,” the statement quoted him as saying.

The chairman further said that the state government had also addressed promotion arrears inherited from the previous administration.

“This includes the arrears of SUBEB staff promotions inherited from the previous administration. The Governor has long settled 345% of salary arrears accrued from instalment payments inherited from the past administration,” he said.

Adaramaja said the government was pursuing improvements in public basic education within available resources, adding that teachers’ welfare was important to improving pupils’ performance.

“The government is taking every step within available resources to drive efficient performance of students in public basic schools. This is partly achievable when their teachers are well taken care of,” he said.
