The Mexican government has approved Reno Omokri’s appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

Omokri announced the development on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 in a post on X, following the delivery of formal diplomatic approval, known as agrément, by Mexico’s Chargé d’Affaires in Nigeria, José Manuel Briseño Flores.

The approval was delivered in Abuja to the Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Babagana Wakil.

Expressing his excitement over the development, Omokri said: “To God be the glory,” while confirming that the Mexican government accepted his appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mexico.

His appointment also includes concurrent accreditation to Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, meaning he will represent Nigeria in the four countries.

Omokri served as a media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan and is known for his political commentaries.
