Nigeria remains Ebola-free, Adamawa suspects negative-NCDC
Nigeria's clean bill of health is confirmed as the two suspected cases return negative, a further proof of the nation's health sector ability to manage the epidemic.
Nigeria’s Ebola-free status subsists as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) confirmed two individuals suspected of having Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Adamawa State have tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing.
The agency said the individuals were identified in Yola and isolated after presenting symptoms suggestive of the disease.
In a statemen on Saturday, 31 October 2026, NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, said the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received the report in the early hours of Friday, 30 October.
He explained that samples were collected from the individuals for laboratory investigations, while appropriate public health measures were immediately activated.
Idris commended the Adamawa Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive response, adding that the NCDC was providing technical support to strengthen the state’s response operations.
He stressed that there is no laboratory-confirmed case of Ebola in Adamawa State, noting that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remains Nigeria’s only confirmed case.
The index patient, the wife of a diplomat, was evacuated to Switzerland after Nigerian doctors successfully managed her case.
The NCDC urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or speculation about the suspected cases.
It also advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly after possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.
The agency warned against self-medication and urged individuals to provide healthcare workers with relevant travel and contact histories.
