Adekunle Gold, Pesa commit $20,000 to sickle cell support
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold and global financial platform Pesa have committed $20,000 to support organisations working with people living with sickle cell disease in four countries.
The initiative, tagged “We’re Not Done: AG Foundation Sickle Cell Impact Initiative”, will support organisations in Nigeria, Canada, Ghana and the United Kingdom.
According to an announcement by Pesa on October 23, the beneficiaries are Sickle Cell Advocacy Management Initiative in Nigeria, Not Just You in Canada, Sickle Life in Ghana and It Takes A Village in the United Kingdom.
The initiative aims to strengthen the work of the organisations through funding, advocacy and public awareness, with a focus on improving support for people living with sickle cell disease.
Adekunle Gold, who founded the AG Foundation, said the initiative was designed to provide more resources to organisations already working to improve the lives of people affected by the condition.
He said the partnership would help them expand their reach and make a greater impact within the sickle cell community.
Pesa co-founder and chief executive officer, Tolu Osho, said the initiative formed part of the company's fifth-anniversary celebrations and reflected its commitment to supporting communities beyond financial services.
The partnership builds on Adekunle Gold's advocacy for people living with sickle cell disease, a condition that affects haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body.
The initiative brings together organisations across four countries to strengthen existing efforts to improve awareness, access to support and the well-being of people affected by the condition.
