Nigerian preacher leads church to operate free supermarket in London

Admin

Thousands of residents of Wandsworth South London received essential food items and groceries during the free supermarket initiative of Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nxtion) on Sunday October 18, 2026.

The free supermarket initiative was to support families battling food insecurity and hunger.

SPAC’s founder, Nigeria-born Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, was at the business facility the church turned into a free supermarket to feed people and provide succour.

The ministry stripped down one of its active business complexes and temporarily transformed it into a fully stocked grocery store.

Done in collaboration with City Welfare, the event allowed thousands of registered community members from all backgrounds to walk in with shopping baskets and pick out food, toiletries, essential everyday hygiene products and vouchers entirely free of charge.

Families in need selected their items rather than receiving a pre-packed food bank parcel.

Clips seen by Naijagoodnews showed people queuing for the items neatly packaged in give-away bags. They were seen receiving the items and going out of the complex smiling.

The event was strategically organised just as the UK community braced for an upcoming supermarket boycott and amidst broader economic tensions and cost-of-living concerns across Europe.

Organisers said it was an extension of their annual food outreach programs aimed at tackling severe food poverty with practical, immediate relief.

In a video, Adegboyega told the church volunteers: ‘’ The goal is to make one person happy; it’s to make one people go home feel hopeful. It’s to make one person feel like there are still good people in the world. There are people who care; If that’s all we have achieved today, then we have achieved a lot.’’

He said there was hunger in Europe, pointing to cost-of-living riots in France but declared the UK will not go down because the church has taught youths how to come together and help their communities.

He said the free supermarket initiative was without government funding or public fund, saying it was entirely borne by the church.
