A Nigerian professor, Dr. Ibironke Odumosu-Ayanu, is the new dean of the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.

‎She will assume office on October 1, 2026, for an initial five-year term, succeeding Martin Phillipson, who served two five-year terms as dean before proceeding administrative leave on July 1.

‎

The member of the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Law since 2008, Odumosu-Ayanu serves as associate dean for research and graduate studies.

The interim Provost and Vice President Academic of the institution, Patti McDougall, announced the appointment in a statement.

‎

‎McDougall, who chaired the search committee, described Odumosu-Ayanu as an accomplished academic and collaborative leader, praising her commitment to research and graduate education.

‎She added that the new dean would build on the college’s strong record in legal education and research while expanding its work in Indigenous legal scholarship and strengthening engagement with communities in Canada and around the world.
