Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a military base in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, recovering weapons, ammunition and 17 motorcycles.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when the terrorists, reportedly riding on more than 100 motorcycles and armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, stormed the Forward Operating Base in Maiyama.
The troops, however, responded swiftly and repelled the attackers, forcing them to retreat and abandon weapons and other equipment.
A statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the troops subsequently launched pursuit and exploitation operations in the surrounding areas.
The operations led to the recovery of 17 motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and a communication device believed to have been used by the terrorists.
Danja said the recovered items represented a setback to the operational capabilities of the terrorist group in the area.
He added that the military had maintained control of the area, while patrols and clearance operations continued to track down fleeing members of the group.
“The general area remains firmly under troops' control, while aggressive patrols, clearance and dominance operations continue to track and neutralise fleeing members of the terrorist group,” the statement said.
The Theatre Command of Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed commitment to protecting communities and denying terrorists freedom of action within its joint operations area.
