The Secretary-General of UN Tourism Shaikha Al Nowais and full-time nomadic travel blogger, Tom Grond have confirmed participation in the Detty December Fest 2026 in Lagos.

Slated for December 18-30, Detty December is a cultural anniversary of Afrobeats concerts, beach parties, clubbing, traditional weddings, carnivals, food festivals and family homecomings.

It has become the main tourism hub for Nigeria attracting over 1.2 million to 3.6 million participants, including hundreds of thousands of global guests and returning Nigerian diaspora members.

Cowrywise 2025 Detty December Report estimated participants spent roughly ₦396.54 billion ($300 million scale) during the season while the Lagos State Government said it generated over $71.6 million (~₦111 billion) in direct state revenue.

Grond, in a social media post on his verified account Traveltomtom, shared a short video clip with Al Nowais with whom he said he just had a conversation on Nigeria.

Appearing with the UN Tourism scribe, he wrote: “Nigeria 🇳🇬 You’re going to want to hear what the lady has to say! I expressed her my love for the country and then she mentioned Detty December! 🔥

‘’You already know how much I loved traveling through Nigeria. The energy, the hospitality, the way people pull you in and make you feel welcome. That’s the Nigeria I experienced and love sharing with you. ❤️

‘’Hearing the enthusiasm of the @unwto Secretary-General for Nigeria made me even more excited to return. Tourism creates jobs, opens doors and gives people a reason to look beyond the headlines.

‘’And yes, you heard us: we’re coming to Nigeria for Detty December!’’

Turning to Al Nowais, Grond, a Netherland citizen, said she would love the vibe and welcoming nature of Nigeria.

The UN scribe mentioned Nigeria has the best Minister too in Hannatu Musa Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy with Grond declaring ‘’we are coming back to Nigeria, guys.’’
