US-based basketballer Lijirin visits Nigeria, lifts kids, women

Blue Demons women's basketball player Doyinsola Lijirin has put smiles on children and women during a recent visit to Nigeria.

The 6-foot-3 senior forward, who transferred to DePaul University, in a video, shared the journey of her visit to Nigeria from the United States.

She is seen mingling freely with locals sharing cash award to a group of female traders who hugged her affectionately.

The Ondo-born, who is majoring in Communication and Media Arts, also shared cash with a group of street kids.

Doyinsola, as she is popularly called, collects sports shoes, sportswear, and other sporting gear and takes them back to Nigeria to donate to sports organisations and support athletes at home.

To show she is culturally connected to Nigeria, she passes on songs and Yoruba language to teammates in the US, confirming her role as a culture ambassador.

‘’She's fun to be around, and her teammates have reportedly picked up Yoruba songs and expressions from her,’’ a source close to her told Naijagoodnews.com.

‘’ She is a Yoruba girl representing, giving back, and carrying her culture with her,’’ the source added.
