VIDEO: Sanwo-Olu makes surprise appearance on runway at Lagos Fashion Week

Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has taken an unexpected turn on the runway at Lagos Fashion Week, walking in a collection by Nigerian fashion designer Ugo Monye.

The Governor joined professional models on Saturday, October 31, drawing cheers from the audience as attendees recognised him.

He was not the only familiar face on the runway, as notable personalities, including celebrity chef Hilda Baci, singer Teni Makanaki and comedian Real Warri Pikin, also showcased fashion collections at the event.

Other personalities who graced the runway were actress Rachael Okonkwo, Sharon Adeleke and Temi Nkem.

Sharing a video of his appearance, Sanwo-Olu said he had stepped away from the usual business of governance to support Monye, whom he described as an incredibly talented designer.

He added that he was happy to support the people driving Lagos' growth as a home for fashion, creativity and culture.

The 2026 edition of Lagos Fashion Week, the 15th edition of the annual fashion showcase, held from October 28 to November 1 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele, the event provides a platform for Nigerian and other African designers to showcase their collections, connect with industry stakeholders and promote African fashion globally.

This year's edition was themed 'CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures.'
