The Federal Government is preparing to open an application platform for Nigerians interested in purchasing houses under its 5,000-unit Renewed Hope Housing Programme in Lagos State.
The housing project is being executed in partnership with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
The development comes after the groundbreaking ceremony at the weekend at Lekki Aviation Town, Yegunda Government Resettlement Scheme, Ibeju-Lekki.
The project is expected to provide 5,000 housing units across Lekki Aviation Town, The Parliament and GranVille Estate within 36 months.
Ahead of the opening of the application portal, interested Nigerians have been advised to start making enquiries about mortgage facilities through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and other mortgage institutions.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, said President Bola Tinubu was concerned about the country's housing shortage, estimated at 15 million units and affecting about 120 million Nigerians.
The Minister disclosed that the Federal Government was also considering a nationwide social housing initiative that would provide 100 houses in every local government area across the country.
He added that the government was working towards another housing scheme expected to deliver 100,000 units.
According to him, feasibility studies and cost assessments are currently being carried out to determine the financial requirements for the proposed projects, taking into account differences in construction expenses across the States.
