American teacher: moving son to school in Nigeria paying off

The popular American said she has seen changes in her son after enrolment in Nigeria confirming the ability of Nigerian schools to shape lives and form character.

American digital creator Brittney Caldwell said the decision to move his son to a private school in Abuja from the United States is one of the best.

Caldwell, a public school history teacher from Georgia Atlanta, sold her house in 2021 and moved permanently to Abuja.

The 34-year-old American said she decided to enroll her son, Brason, in a private school in Abuja because of academic discipline that America cannot offer.

In several posts on social media, she showed the moment they arrived Abuja and moved to the school for enrolment.

The decision, according to her, has paid off.

In a post, she said: ‘’Brason being here in Nigeria is one of my favourite things. The discipline that Abuja offers is beyond and its something I insist for my son.’’

She said Nigerians thrive in the US because of the academic discipline they have been exposed to.

According to her: ‘’There is a reason why Nigerians come to the US and they are doctors, they are engineers and they are running circles because schools here they do not play.’’

He said being in a Nigerian school has exposed her son to the competitive nature of Nigeria, a much-needed skill for navigation in life.

‘’So, I’m always getting a full report from Brason’s teachers and they want to take shape and he needed it. Now he sees the growth that he’s had as a student.

‘’He‘s excited and he’s competitive. In the States, they don’t do public shaming enough. Feeling pride in your work and I felt like that was what was missing and now it’s awesome,’’ she shared.

Her experience has further demonstrated the level of competition in Nigerian schools and their ability to form academic discipline as well as sound moral character in students.

She is the latest American to praise the Nigerian educational system after first-hand experience.
