Kunle Afod raises N1.4m for veteran actor

Actor Kunle Afod has raised N1.4 million for veteran Yoruba actor Ezekiel Atilola, popularly known as Baba Tonbolo or Tombolo.

Baba Tonbolo, who began his acting career in 1984 and gained fame from the classic movie Tombolo, revealed severe financial struggles in an interview on Kunle Afod’s YouTube channel.

To survive, feed his family and pay his daughter's polytechnic school fees after lacking steady movie industry income, the veteran actor resorted to riding commercial motorcycle.

To keep his household afloat and pay his daughter’s polytechnic fees, Atilola sold his personal motorcycle and acquired another on an installment payment plan. He said he pays ₦30,000 weekly toward the ₦1.5 million cost of the vehicle.

“There is no one to help me. I am the only boy my mother gave birth to, and I have three elder sisters. I am the only one people really know, and there is no money with them either,” Atilola said during the interview.

Touched by his situation, Kunle Afod launched an appeal and raised ₦1.4 million in a matter of weeks to support him.

In a follow-up video, Kunle Afod was seen handing over the N1.4m to the veteran actor, who was too shocked to react.

When he recovered composure, he went on his knees, thanking God for the provision in an emotion-laden manner.
