Man sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling 11-year-old girl

A Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced, Idris Ashimiyu, to life imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old girl.

Justice Abiola Soladoye delivered the judgment on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 after finding Ashimiyu guilty of a one-count charge of defilement brought against him by the Lagos State Government.

The survivor, who was 13 years old when she testified, told the court that she knew Ashimiyu, who helped run errands and wash cars within their compound. She recounted how he approached and sexually assaulted her.

In her judgment, Justice Soladoye described the survivor's testimony as credible and coherent, holding that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge also ordered that Ashimiyu's name be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021.

The conviction was secured under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for unlawful sexual intercourse with a child.
