BamBam makes cinema debut in new romantic comedy

Reality TV star and actress BamBam is set to make her cinema debut with a new romantic comedy, The Perfect Spec, which will begin showing in Nigerian cinemas on November 6.

BamBam, whose real name is Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, takes on the lead role of Oye, a 32-year-old woman who has achieved much in life but decides to avoid romantic relationships after experiencing heartbreak.

However, her decision to stay away from men takes an unexpected turn when a guardian angel becomes involved in her love life, setting off a series of events that challenge her plans.

The movie represents a new step in BamBam's acting career as she takes on a leading role in a cinema production for the first time.

Directed by Michelle Bello, the romantic comedy also features Ololade Okedare, Ayobola Eniola, Vine Olugu, Samuel Onwubiko, popularly known as Limoblaze, Seun Ajayi, Segilola Ogidan and Ifeanyi Kalu.

The Perfect Spec centres on love, faith and the pressure surrounding marriage. Its storyline follows Oye as she struggles to make romantic decisions while dealing with different men who enter her life.

Among them are a childhood crush who appears to possess the qualities she desires in a partner and a charming client whose presence leaves her questioning her expectations.

The film draws inspiration from conversations about marriage prophecies linked to gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey's Hallelujah Challenge. It also takes inspiration from writer Ololade Okedare's personal experience with her widowed mother, who was hesitant to pursue another relationship because of societal expectations.

The production was handled by Gbolahan Gafar, while Joke Silva, Soji Jacobs, Tochukwu Macfoy and Ewoma Luther-Abegunde served as executive producers.

Ahead of its nationwide release, the film held its Lagos premiere on November 1, bringing together members of the cast, filmmakers and other guests to celebrate the project.

With its focus on romance, faith and the expectations people face when searching for life partners, The Perfect Spec is expected to bring a fresh story to Nigerian cinema when it opens on November 6.
