FCT police rescue abandoned newborn boy, seek mother's identity

Precious Olugbodi

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued an abandoned newborn boy found wrapped in a nylon bag in Bwari Area Council, appealing to residents to help identify his mother.

The baby, who reportedly had bruises on his hand and arm, was found in a poor condition and taken to hospital for medical attention.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a video message, explaining that the command had been attending to the baby's medical needs and would return him to the hospital before handing him over to social welfare authorities.

She urged residents, particularly those in Bwari, to provide information about any woman who was recently pregnant but is now without a visible pregnancy or a child in her care.

Adeh also appealed to women who may be unable to care for their babies to approach the police or social welfare authorities for assistance rather than abandoning their children.

She encouraged anyone with relevant information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or Bwari Police Station to help identify the child's mother.
