NEMA empowers 653 flood victims with items, food in Kebbi
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided food assistance and livelihood empowerment items to 653 households affected by the 2025 floods in Kebbi State.
The intervention was flagged off in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday as part of the Federal Government's nationwide Presidential Post-Flood Intervention Programme, aimed at supporting recovery and restoring the livelihoods of affected households.
NEMA Director-General, Zubaida Umar, represented by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Abbani Imam Garki, said the programme was approved by President Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda to complement earlier humanitarian assistance and strengthen communities against future disasters.
She explained that the intervention would cover all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, with NEMA working alongside State emergency management agencies, local authorities and other relevant institutions to ensure transparent and equitable distribution.
Umar urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the assistance to rebuild their livelihoods and improve their economic well-being.
The items distributed included sewing machines, grinding machines, cargo tricycles and assorted food supplies, providing beneficiaries with immediate relief and equipment to support income-generating activities.
Kebbi Governor, Nasir Idris, represented by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Aliyu Umar, commended the Federal Government and NEMA for extending support to flood-affected and vulnerable communities in the state.
The Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, also praised the intervention and encouraged beneficiaries to utilise the items effectively to improve their livelihoods.
