Nigeria fourth in Africa with most FDI inflows

Admin · UPDATED

Nigeria claimed the fourth position on the list of African nations with the most Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2025.

FDI, in economic, means the ownership stake or controlling interest in a business or project in one country by an investor, company or government from another country.

According to the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) World Investment Report 2026, Nigeria attracted $4.01 billion in 2025 as against the $1.61 billion recorded in 2024.

The increase represented a 148.16 percent, which is the highest annual inflow since 2014.

Nigeria achieved the feat despite a sharp decline across the continent.

According to UNCTAD, FDI flows to Africa dropped by 26 per cent to $70 billion from $94 billion recorded in 2024.

Egypt with $15.45 billion led the way in Africa’s FDI flow followed by Guinea ($7.76bn) and Mozambique ($5.69 bn) in 2025.
