Taraba empowers 125 with vocational skills, business starter packs

Precious Olugbodi

The Taraba State Government has empowered 125 residents with vocational skills and business starter packs to support entrepreneurship and improve household livelihoods.

The beneficiaries, who completed five months of apprenticeship training, received the equipment to establish their businesses and become economically self-reliant.

The initiative is being implemented under the State's Inclusive Basic Service Delivery and Livelihood Empowerment Integrated Programme, in partnership with the African Development Bank.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Jalingo, Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Gebon Kataps, said the programme was aimed at empowering young people and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

He urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to their new ventures and make productive use of the equipment.

The State Programme Coordinator, Julius Awudu, disclosed that the latest distribution was the second batch of beneficiaries, following an earlier distribution to the first batch.

He cautioned the recipients against selling or abandoning the equipment, describing the starter packs as valuable assets that could transform their economic circumstances. Some of the vocational skills acquired by the beneficiaries include tailoring, carpentry, information and communication technology (ICT), welding and fabrication and shoemaking.
