Tinubu seeks stronger Nigeria-Brazil ties, congratulates Lula on re-election
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, expressing Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations between countries.
Lula secured a historic fourth, non-consecutive term after winning Brazil’s presidential run-off election on October 25, 2026, according to the country’s electoral authority.
In a congratulatory dated October 26, Tinubu said Lula’s renewed mandate presented an opportunity for both countries to deepen their longstanding friendship and historical ties.
The President described Nigeria and Brazil as leading nations of the Global South, noting that stronger cooperation between them could promote economic integration and advance their shared interests in a rapidly changing global order.
Tinubu identified trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange as key areas in which both countries could expand cooperation.
He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation with Brazil and advancing shared priorities across Africa, South America and the wider Global South.
On behalf of Nigerians, Tinubu wished Lula a successful new term in office.
