Class teacher saves pupil, family from poisoned meals
A class teacher, Mrs. Victoria Sofoluwe, has saved a pupil and her family from death after a house help poisoned their meals.
Sofoluwe, a pre-school teacher at Chresol Schools on 3 Jamiu Eletu Street, Awoyaya, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State, recounted how her alertness and attention to details saved the day for the little boy and his family.
In a video shared by the school on social media, the teacher said the pupil came with a food cooker without an extra plate to dish the food during lunch time.
According to her, she has a culture of always insisting that pupils eat with extra plate as against eating directly from the coolers.
That turned out to be the saving grace for the day and the family.
Sofoluwe said: ‘’He came with the Indomie in a cooler but didn’t come with an extra plate. So, I took it upon my self to get the extra plate. He came with Indomie and boiled egg. So, while I was dishing the food, I noticed the black substance and made the video to the mom.’’
The discovery of a black substance, which turned out to be a rat poision, raised suspicion, forcing her to contact the mom who was also shocked.
According to the teacher: ‘’She said it was not possible because it was her husband that prepared the food.
‘’Lo and behold the husband prepared the food but the new house help they got on Thursday spiked the food. This happened on a Friday. She added the poison at the down of the food and covered the rest with the main food. It was while I was serving it that I discovered.’’
When the couple decided to contact the new house help, they discovered she was about to escape before she was arrested.
She didn’t just poison the boy but also the stew the family prepared to eat later in the day.
‘’They later found out the help also spiked their food. I just thanked God that I was attentive and observant. I thank God for prayer. It was God’s intervention that made me insist on getting an extra plate to dish out the food,’’ Sofoluwe stated.
Her alertness saved the family from untimely deaths, emphasizing the necessity for care-givers to pay extra attention to details.
